EQUINOX STATE OF MIND: WHERE LIGHT & DARK COLLIDE

Twice a year, the universe gives us a rare moment of symmetry as day and night share equal time, light and shadow meet one another, and the Earth takes a brief pause. Welcome to the Fall Equinox, an astrological balancing act that doubles as a personal reset button.

The equinox is a sacred threshold, placing us between seasons that asks you to slow down, take stock, and recalibrate. Spiritually it’s considered the harvest period, a time to gather what you’ve been growing since spring, saying thank you for your abundance, and preparing to release what no longer serves you. The Equinox teaches us about living in harmony with cycles of light, dark, growth, and rest.

In 2025, the equinox lands at a particularly charged moment in the skies. With eclipse season underway, this year’s balance point feels like more of a wake up call. What needs to shift? What’s out of alignment? What are you ready to let go of so you can step into your next season?

Why the Equinox Matters

On September 22, the Sun slips into Libra, the sign of balance, beauty, and relationships. Astrologically, this is the moment where we pivot from the blaze of summer into the reflective energy of autumn.

The equinox is essentially nature’s mirror, whatever is happening in the cosmos is reflected within our own life. The dualities we live with come into focus. The lesson is that balance is like a living pendulum, the equinox teaches us to embrace the contrast instead of fighting it.

Across cultures, this time has always been considered significant. In Greek mythology, Persephone begins her descent into the underworld, ushering in the darker half of the year. Celtic traditions celebrated Mabon, a harvest festival honoring abundance and gratitude. In modern spirituality, it’s a time to realign intentions, practice gratitude, and lean into transitions with grace.

The Energy of This Season

Balance, but make it chic

Libra season and the equinox together remind you that contrast can be quite sexy. Think less about a rigid 50/50 mindset and more about harmony that feels effortless, like a perfect outfit that makes you feel confident yet comfortable or a well styled aesthetically pleasing room that has bold touches with peaceful energy.

Harvest your wins

This is your personal victory lap moment. What projects, relationships, or inner growth have blossomed since spring? Acknowledge and celebrate them, gratitude is the gateway to more abundance being received.

Release, release, release

The falling seasonal leaves can be beautifully symbolic. What can you let go of without guilt? Old habits, limiting beliefs, outdated relationships? The equinox makes releasing feel less like loss and more like liberation.

Turn inward

As daylight fades, the collective energy shifts from extroverted to introspective. This is the season for journaling, long baths, and heart-to-heart conversations. The equinox is our seasonal invitation to recharge your batteries and reset.

How to Work With the Equinox

Throw a Harvest Dinner

Seasonal foods like apples, squash, and grapes are symbolic of abundance. Invite your closest friends and family over for dinner, light a few candles, and share what you’re grateful for around the table.

Write and Spark it Up

On one piece of paper, list your harvests aka what you’re proud of or grateful for. On another, write what you’re ready to release. Keep the first list somewhere sacred such as your altar space, and safely burn the second outside, releasing into nature.

Get Outside

Nature is one of our best teachers right now. Take a walk and notice how balance plays out around you in forms of shadows against sunlight, life giving way to decay. Bring back a finding on your walk to place on your altar as a seasonal marker and offering.

Mantras for the Fall Equinox

• I honor the beauty of balance within and around me.

• Gratitude is my anchor, even as I change.

• Releasing creates space for new abundance.

• I embrace the flow of the season with grace.

• Balance is not perfection, it’s presence.

The Fall Equinox is a spiritual event masked as an astronomical one. It is a sacred pause that holds a mirror up to your life for reflection and release. This is your cosmic reminder that you can be both light and shadow, expansion and stillness, structure and surrender. Light your candles, pour a glass of wine, set out offerings for your ancestors, and ask yourself: What feels out of balance in my life? What can I honor, and what can I release? This is your invitation to move into autumn with more clarity and less dead weight. If the universe can hold light and dark in equal measure, so can you within your own life.
